Harris Has Gone 27 Days Without A Conference Since Being tasked With Border Crisis

The migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border continues – with Vice President Kamala Harris continuing to draw criticism.

Harris was appointed as President Biden’s manager of the crisis last month but has yet to hold a news conference regarding her duties after 27 days in the position.

The position is seen by many observers as a political minefield, especially with the widespread belief that Harris has presidential aspirations. The White House also seems aware of the explosiveness of the situation and spent time Monday walking back President Biden's comments over the weekend when he referred to the situation as a "crisis."

The Biden administration had resisted using the term "crisis," and instead has been referring to the situation as a "challenge." On Saturday, the president made reference to "the crisis that ended up on the border with young people," but according to White Press Secretary Jen Psaki, the comment had been misconstrued.

"The president does not feel that children coming to our border seeking refuge from violence, economic hardships, and other dire circumstances is a crisis," Psaki said during a press briefing on Monday.

"He does feel that the crisis in Central America, the dire circumstances that many are fleeing from, that that is a situation we need to spend our time, our effort on, and we need to address it if we’re going to prevent more of an influx of migrants from coming in years to come," she said.
